Senior Category Manager

Do you want to make a difference for patients undergoing surgery by securing the compliance and quality of medical devices used by healthcare professionals all around the world? Here you have the opportunity to get an exciting job, as Senior Category Manager, in an international company. The position reports to the Manager of Category Management.

Category Management is part of Strategy and Commercial Development, a central area in Ferrosan Medical Devices. Category Management consists of 4 experienced Category Managers, covering direct spend, CMOs, and indirect spend including equipment and machinery. The team is responsible for all aspects of supplier management including supplier selection, negotiation, and collaboration as well as risk mitigation, spend and savings initiatives, and category strategies.

As part of our continued development of Category Management, we see a significant opportunity to further strengthen our indirect procurement setup. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future approach to indirect category management at Ferrosan Medical Devices. We are looking for a person who is motivated by creating structure, building category strategies, and helping define the future role of procurement across the business.

Responsibilities

You will take on a central role with responsibility for the collaboration and development of the company's Indirect and Capex categories. There will be a great deal of contact with suppliers, who are primarily in Europe, as well as a broad network of stakeholders across Ferrosan Medical Devices. Your main tasks will be:

  • Development, implementation, and continuous improvement of category strategies
  • Manage key supplier relationships while developing and strengthening the supplier base
  • Negotiations and conclusion of contracts
  • Further develop and professionalize the indirect category management framework
  • Establish greater transparency, governance, and structure across indirect spend categories
  • Drive the development of category management processes and best practices in close collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Participate in various product development and optimization projects

The overall purpose of the position is to ensure robust supplier cooperation and management, reducing total costs through close collaboration while taking quality, reliability, and risk management into account.

Your profile

The ideal candidate for the job holds experience from a similar role in managing and leading categories, preferably in a highly regulated industry such as medical devices, pharma, biotech, life science, or similar. As a person you are curious, have a pragmatic approach, and possess a solutions-oriented mindset.

The ideal Senior Category Manager will demonstrate:

  • At a minimum, a bachelor’s degree or diploma, preferably a master’s degree, in engineering, business, supply chain management, or a closely related field
  • +5 years of professional experience in category management, purchasing, or supply chain management, ideally within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotech industries
  • Experience building, developing, or maturing category management practices, processes, or governance frameworks
  • Proven ability to develop practical solutions to complex supply chain and procurement challenges
  • Deep expertise in stakeholder engagement, both internally across departments and externally with suppliers
  • An inclusive and collaborative work style that drives positive impact and engagement across teams
  • A holistic, business-oriented approach to identifying and implementing supply chain solutions
  • Demonstrated success in achieving measurable results in previous category management or supply chain roles
  • Comfortable balancing strategic development with hands-on operational execution
  • Proven ability to lead change and build strong stakeholder commitment
  • Thriving in environments where not everything is predefined and enjoys creating structure and direction
  • Experience working with GMP-regulated production environments is a strong advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

A unique opportunity to shape the future

Unlike many category management roles, this position is not solely about maintaining an established setup. We are looking for a Senior Category Manager who is excited by the opportunity to further develop and professionalize our indirect category management approach. You will have significant influence on frameworks, governance, category strategies, and ways of working, while at the same time being a trusted procurement partner to the business. The ambition to strengthen indirect category management is well supported across the organization, providing a strong foundation for driving meaningful improvements and lasting change.
