Stillingsbeskrivelsen fra Danmarks Meteorologiske Institut

As Project Leader for Ghana Climate Atlas, you will play a central role in an international climate data initiative that supports evidence-based decision making for policymakers, researchers and local stakeholders. You will be responsible for turning plans into practice and ensuring that the atlas becomes a robust, user-oriented tool that can be applied in real-world climate adaptation and planning. The role combines scientific leadership in numerical climate modeling, project management, stakeholder engagement and close collaboration with technical experts in both Ghana and Denmark.

You will work closely with colleagues involved in Climate Atlas Denmark at the Danish Meteorological Institute and with partners at the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet). You will have clear responsibility for progress, quality and scientific coherence, while being part of a supportive team and a learning-oriented environment. This position is well suited to someone who is comfortable in international and African contexts and motivated by climate science, data and development cooperation.

What you will do In this role you will lead the Ghana Climate Atlas project from concept through implementation, ensuring that timelines, milestones and deliverables are met. You will connect scientific expertise in numerical climate modeling with practical needs, and you will ensure that local and international users are involved throughout the process. A significant part of your work will be to build and maintain strong collaboration with GMet and to coordinate closely with the Climate Atlas Denmark team, so that the Ghana atlas develops as part of a broader Climate Atlas concept.

Your tasks will cover scientific leadership, project management, communication and user involvement. You will manage project plans and risks, facilitate workshops and training activities, and ensure clear communication of project progress and results to diverse stakeholders. You will also play an active role in co-creation processes with GMet’s researchers and developers, with a focus on building local ownership and long-term capacity in climate modeling and climate services.

  • Lead and coordinate the Ghana Climate Atlas project from planning to delivery
  • Provide scientific leadership on numerical climate modeling and climate data for the atlas
  • Maintain and further develop the collaboration with Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet)
  • Plan and facilitate course activities and co-creation processes with GMet’s research and development teams
  • Coordinate user involvement and dialogue with local and international stakeholders and end-users
  • Collaborate closely with the Climate Atlas Denmark team to align methods, tools and the overall Climate Atlas concept
What you bring You bring solid experience in project management and are used to creating structure in complex, multi-partner projects. You are comfortable working in international and cross-cultural contexts, including African settings, and you have a strong background in climate modeling, climate science or closely related areas. You are able to communicate clearly with both technical experts and non-specialist stakeholders and you take responsibility for driving processes forward in a systematic and transparent way.

You are confident working with numerical climate models and data-driven environments and can collaborate efficiently with scientific and technical professionals. Your ability to build trust, facilitate collaboration and keep a steady overview will be central to your success in this role, together with your motivation to support climate adaptation and planning through high-quality climate information.

  • 5 years of experience with development of numerical climate models
  • 5 years of experience with project management within climate, development, research or advisory work
  • Practical experience with programming in Python for data processing, analysis or modeling
  • Documented experience working in an African context with scientific, technical or development projects
  • Strong English skills in speaking and writing, including formal and technical communication
  • Strong skills in planning, coordination, stakeholder management and structured follow-up
Why you will want to work here You will join a team that values professional quality and a supportive everyday working environment. Collaboration and teamwork are central, and you will experience a culture where colleagues share knowledge, provide feedback and help each other solve tasks. There is room for new ideas within a structured framework, and you will be encouraged to learn and develop through your work in the Ghana Climate Atlas and the wider Climate Atlas community.

The organization is committed to diversity and inclusion and sees different perspectives as an asset for better climate solutions. You will be part of an innovative and learning-oriented environment with an engaged group of colleagues focused on climate, data and societal impact. The working environment combines clear responsibilities, flexibility and an informal tone, creating a setting where people support each other in a dynamic workday.

  • A collaborative work culture with clear focus on teamwork and mutual support
  • An innovative and learning-oriented environment with knowledge sharing across projects
  • Opportunities for professional growth and further training in relevant areas
  • Flexible working arrangements that support work-life balance within a structured framework
  • An engaged workplace with colleagues committed to climate, data and societal impact
  • A dynamic environment with clear responsibilities and room to influence solutions and processes
Your employment conditions Employment and salary will be according to the Danish Law and Agreements, specifically the Collective Agreement for State-Employed Academics (AC-overenskomsten). It will be possible to negotiate an addition to the basic salary depending on your qualifications and experience. DMI offers a flexible working week of 37 hours including a paid lunch break, and six weeks of paid vacation annually.

There is a strong emphasis on competence development, and you will have access to relevant training and development opportunities as the project and organization evolve. This supports continuous learning and ensures that you can build your profile within climate data, numerical climate modeling, international cooperation and project management.
